Leo I. Johnson

Born: March 20, 1918, Homer, Nebraska
Died: March 8, 2005 Phoenix, Arizona, at age 93
He was a veteran of WWII, European Campaign. After the war, he was the grounds superintendent at the Sioux City Country Club in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Darlene Carlson in 1952 and the two of them began designing and building golf courses beginning with Sun Valley and Hidden Acres in Sioux City and going all across the mid-west. They moved to Arizona in 1970 and continued with the business. Leo and his sons built Pepperwood in Tempe, Apache Sun in Queen Creek, and the back nine at Williams Air Force Base. He continued designing for Johnson G.C. Builders in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
